5.0 out of 5 stars A Resource that Covers Both Sides of the Transaction, July 7, 2010
This review is from: The Nonprofit Buyer: Strategies for Success from a Nonprofit Technology Sales Veteran (Paperback)

Andrew did a wonderful job of covering both sides of the transaction in his book. Although designed as a resource for nonprofits, I would go further and suggest that nonprofit vendors read this as well. The content is clear and organized well for what many consider a “technological” subject matter. Selling, Buying, and software can in fact be complex but Andrew strategically segmented insights into each of these topics in a way that makes them seem elementary. I enjoyed learning from this resource. My fav was the term “Return on Mission.” I’ll definitely reference this to others in my field and to my clients as I serve them.

Andrew urban has put together a book that should be read carefully by anyone in the nonprofit world who has responsibility for purchasing major software. His experience and his capacity to look at the issue of buying and selling from both sides of the fence is invaluable.

While going though the difficult process of deciding on a new donor database, we came across this informative book. After reading the book, it was much easier for us to determine the Return on Mission, Critical Business Issues, and the clear vision and goal set that we were trying to achieve. Now that the process is in its final stages, it is apparent that the tips given in this book allowed us to not only meet but actually exceed all of our goals and expectations of our database solution. I recommend this book to anyone making a major purchase decision.

If you are buying for a nonprofit then this book is a must read. It provides an insiders view of the sales process which will empower you to take control of the buying process. The book is written in an approachable style that demystifies the all too often confusing language and steps involved in getting you a product that is the right fit, the right price, and actually does what you need it to do.
